Shroomify is a mushroom-identification app built by Simon Grogan (Foragers Friend). We have designed it to work with as little of your data as possible. This policy explains what the app and this website do and do not collect, and the choices you have.
When you take or choose a photo to identify, it is analysed by a model that runs entirely on your phone, offline. The photo and the results stay on your device. Nothing about that identification leaves your phone unless you take the extra step described next.
After an identification you may see an option to share your photo with Shroomify. This is entirely optional and off by default. If — and only if — you tap Share photo, we receive and store:
Before a shared photo is sent, we remove embedded location and camera metadata (EXIF) from it, so precise GPS coordinates are not included. We store only a one-way hashed (non-identifying) form of your IP address to help prevent abuse. Shared photos are kept privately and used only for the purposes you agreed to. If you gave a name, it may be shown as a credit alongside the photo in the app.
Changed your mind about a photo you shared? Email info@foragers-friend.com and we will remove it.
If you rate a species within the app, we record your star rating together with your chosen country, an app-generated device identifier, and your IP address. This is used only to tally ratings and to stop the same device voting many times. It is not linked to your identity.
If you use the contact form on this website, the name, email address, and message you provide are sent to us by email so we can reply. We use them only to respond to you.
Shroomify offers an optional one-off premium upgrade. Payments are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their own terms and privacy policies. We never see or store your card or payment details.
The app and site occasionally link out to other websites (for example, a recommended field guide). Once you follow such a link, the destination site is governed by its own privacy policy, not this one.
Like most websites, our host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, date, and the page requested) for security and reliability. These are ordinary technical records and are not used to build a profile of you.
Shroomify is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this policy as the app develops. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date above. Significant changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
