Why Shroomify exists
Mushroom books are wonderful companions, but they can be awkward to navigate while standing in a wood with an unfamiliar fungus in front of you. Shroomify offers a quicker route through the possibilities: choose the features you can observe and a long catalogue becomes a focused, useful shortlist.
It is designed to organise the evidence rather than make the final identification. That judgement stays with the person examining the mushroom, while Shroomify makes it faster to find the species worth comparing closely.
The app has grown into an offline field guide with hundreds of species, more than a thousand credited photographs, photo-assisted characteristic suggestions and a private logbook. It remains deliberately independent: no adverts, no subscription and no selling personal data.
Purchases fund the work
A one-off Shroomify purchase helps pay for the unglamorous parts of a trustworthy field guide: checking taxon names, preparing and crediting images, improving descriptions, testing offline models and correcting the awkward edge cases.
It also supports the Shroomify Research Project, which brings together fungal records, weather, trees, soils, geology and terrain to understand why fruitbodies appear when and where they do.
