Variation
Caps may look yellow-olive when moist and fade grey or buff as they dry.
Lookalikes
Several grey-brown Mycena overlap. Odour, microscopic cells and substrate help separate them.

A wood decomposer on broadleaf logs and branches in Europe, especially beech and ash.
